Meditation and Journal Writing: Can’t Sleep?

Self-care is important for a healthy life. One of the most important self-care practices is to get adequate sleep. But that can be a challenge.

According to research, women are twice as likely as men to have difficulties falling asleep or staying asleep. And there is no shortage of reasons: stress, changes in hormonal levels, premenstrual syndrome, menopause, psychosocial stress (related to coping with work and roles as mothers and wives), depression, anxiety, and weight issues—to name a few.

So how can meditation and journal writing help you get a good night’s rest? Both contribute to “offloading” the worries of the day. A study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found 20 minutes of mindfulness meditation a day significantly improved sleep quality in adults with moderate sleep disturbances. Another study found journalling reduced bedtime worry and stress, increased sleep time, and improved sleep quality.

In this workshop, you’ll practice mindfulness meditation, yoga nidra, and journal writing to create the space for your body and mind to relax.

Meditation and journal writing experience are not required. Appropriate for all levels. Please bring a journal and something to write with.

Learn to Meditate Workshop

Learn to Meditate helps you improve your mindfulness-based skills and teaches various techniques for meditating. Discover what tools you can use to reduce stress, anxiety, negative moods, and distracting thoughts. Learn what meditation really means to you and find a way to become calm and focused. Hip Opener Workshop

Need to get your hips moving without pain? Many of us sit or stand for the greater part of the day, which results in tight hips. In addition, mental and emotional stress are often held in our hips leading to joint stiffness and muscle aching. In this workshop, we will start by slowly moving the hip joint to activate the muscles. As we gain mobility, we will then focus on stretching the soft tissues and relaxing the connective tissues with yoga postures that are sure to provide a deep release.
